The owners of an Oldsmobile Alero contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen with the keys by an acquaintance that did not have permission to take the car.

The police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Oldsmobile.

Seven minutes later officers from the Phoenix Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signals from the stolen Oldsmobile with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the vehicle to a neighborhood near 39th and Southern Avenues in south Phoenix.  This is approximately six miles from where the vehicle was stolen.

The stolen Oldsmobile was occupied, and found parked on a side street in the neighborhood.  The driver/suspect was passed out in the driver’s seat with the keys under his arm.  The suspect was arrested without incident and charged with the theft of the vehicle.  The Oldsmobile was later returned to the owners in good condition.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Oldsmobile Alero in June 2004.
