The owners of a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of their place of employment near I-10 and Baseline Road.  The owners advised that they saw the Chevy pickup being driven away without the keys by an unknown suspect.

The Phoenix Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

A short while later the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen Chevrolet was picked up with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the vehicle was tracked and located travelling eastbound on I-10 near Wild Horse Pass.  The stolen Chevrolet was followed on I-10 to the Casa Grande area where the Arizona DPS Highway Patrol took over the surveillance and attempted to conduct a high risk traffic stop on the stolen Chevrolet pickup.  The driver of the Chevy pickup failed to yield and fled from police.  The vehicle exited I-10 at Toltec road and travelled south approximately 10 miles.  The police terminated the pursuit and set up a perimeter of the area with the assistance of several law enforcement agencies.

The stolen Chevrolet pickup was later found unoccupied.  The police set up a perimeter on the nearby cotton field and used the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety helicopters to search and locate the suspect in the cotton field.   The suspect was taken into custody without incident.  A loaded handgun was located on the floor board of the stolen Chevrolet.  The vehicle was processed for evidence and towed for safe keeping.   The suspect was booked on numerous felony charges.
