The owner of a 2005 Brown Ford Escape met with a friend at a local night club. They then headed to the owner’s motel. While en route they picked up another “friend”. After a while, the “friend” said they had to go to the store for something and left. After short period of time, the owner got concerned, checked outside of their motel room and discovered their sport utility vehicle missing. The owner returned to their room and discovered their keys to the vehicle and credit cards were also missing. The owner contacted the Fort Lauderdale Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the sport utility vehicle. Within minutes of activation a Fort Lauderdale Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack® System homing signal from the stolen Escape on their on-board LoJack® System Police Tracking Computer (PTC), which assists law enforcement officers to locate stolen vehicles quickly and safely. The officer verified the theft information by having their dispatcher query the Reply Code that appeared on their PTC display. The dispatcher relayed the stolen vehicle’s description to the officer so that they could identify the vehicle when they observed it. The officer began tracking the stolen vehicle by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the vehicle abandoned in the 1300 block of N.E. 4th Avenue. The sport utility vehicle was recovered, released to the owner, who responded to the scene, and removed from federal and state crime computer systems.

The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was installed in the 2005 Brown Ford Escape sport utility vehicle in October, 2010.
