The owner of a car dealership located on Washington Street in Newton contacted the Newton Police Department to report that a vehicle that was taken for a test drive had not been returned to their dealership. Despite attempts to contact the alleged customer, they proved unsuccessful.

The Police Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2008 Jeep Wrangler.

A short while later, troopers from the Massachusetts State Police began picking up the silent signals from the LoJack® System installed on the stolen Jeep, while patrolling in the area of Route 128 North in the area of Reading, on the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the LoJack® computers, the troopers were able to successfully track and then quickly locate the unoccupied stolen vehicle parked on Minot Street in Reading not far from where they originally picked up the LoJack signal. The troopers recovered the vehicle in less than 30 minutes from the time of activation. Investigation is ongoing.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2008 Jeep wrangler on 09/13/2008 by Express Wiring (EXPW) at the Herb Chambers Dealership in Danvers, MA.
