The owner of a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu contacted the Austin Police Department to report that her vehicle was stolen.  While the owner was in the hospital, someone burglarized her house, took her car keys and stole her vehicle.

Austin P D verified the burglary and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Shortly after, the Austin P D airship picked up the silent LoJack® homing signals from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the airship tracked the stolen vehicle to a hotel parking lot.  Patrol elements responded to this location and observed that the license plates that belong to the stolen vehicle had been taken off and replaced with another license plate.  That license plate belonged to a person who had rented a room at the hotel.  Officers went to the hotel room and found 2 suspects inside.  The keys to the stolen vehicle were also found in the room.  The suspect who owned the replacement license plate was arrested.  Officers reviewed the hotel security video and observed the second suspect in the hotel room driving the stolen vehicle into the hotel parking lot.  He was arrested also.  The Chevrolet Malibu was recovered in good condition.

The LoJack®System was installed in the Chevrolet Malibu in February of 2005.
