The owners of a Lincoln Town Car contacted the Long Beach Police Department to report their vehicle was stolen.  Long Beach PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Lincoln.

Minutes later, officers from several police agencies, including a LAPD airship, picked up the silent LoJack® homing signals from the stolen Lincoln with the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the LAPD airship tracked the vehicle to the 2000 block of Piru, which is in LASD-Century Station’s area. The airship contacted LASD patrol units via radio and informed them they had located the vehicle parked in front of a residence. The LAPD observer saw a male subject exit the driver door of the vehicle and provided this information to the LASD patrol deputies, along with a description of the subject.  When the deputies arrived they found the subject standing on the sidewalk in the area.  The subject was detained and questioned. Upon questioning the subject admitted to taking the vehicle.  He was subsequently arrested for auto theft charges.

The LoJack®System was installed in the Lincoln Town Car in June 2003.
