The owner of a Scion tC parked it outside his home in Grand Prairie, TX, with a spare key hidden in the glove box. When a thief broke into the car hoping to steal the contents, he or she found the key and took the entire vehicle instead. Because the stolen tC was protected with the LoJack® system when it was purchased, it took local law enforcement less than a half hour after activation to recover it.

On June 15th, 2014, the Scion’s owner contacted the Grand Prairie Police to report that his vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the tC, which was installed at Vandergriff Toyota in Arlington, TX.

Fifteen minutes later, officers from the Grand Prairie PD picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Scion was found parked and unoccupied at an apartment complex. The police retrieved the tC and soon returned it to its relieved owner.
