The owner of a Mercedes-Benz E320 was feeding the ducks at a lake near his home in Miami-Dade County, FL on a recent Thursday. He had left his vehicle running, unlocked and, unfortunately, directly in the path of two robbers fleeing after a mugging. The crooks jumped into the car and took off. Because this car was protected with the LoJack® system, local police, with LoJack’s help, were able to recover it and take a suspect into custody in just minutes after activation.

On May 29th, 2014, the owner of the Mercedes contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department to report their vehicle stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information immediately entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the E320, which was installed at Mercedes-Benz of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Within minutes of activation, Miami-Dade PD officers picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen car on their on-board LoJack tracking computers. The Mercedes was found, parked and unoccupied in front of a home on N.W. 93rd Street. A subject standing nearby started walking away as police approached but was quickly taken into custody. The E320, in good condition, was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner.
