Recently, the owner of an auto repair shop in Pompano Beach, FL got a huge shock on a recent Monday morning. He discovered that a BMW 328i that had been dropped off by its owner for servicing was missing. The LoJack® system that was installed when the car was purchased helped local law enforcement recover it in a very unusual location just hours after activation.

On May 5th, 2014, the shop owner reported the crime to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the 328i, which was installed at Condemi Motor Company in Lodi, NJ.

A short while later, Broward County Sheriff’s deputies picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen car on the on-board LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The BMW was located in a police impound yard, retrieved and soon returned to its thankful owners.
