On a recent Friday morning, the owners of a BMW Z4 in Pompano Beach, FL, got an unpleasant surprise when they awoke to discover their convertible had been stolen overnight from their driveway. Because these victims were smart enough to protect their vehicle with the LoJack® system, local police were able to recover it that same day.

On May 9th, 2014, the BMW’s owners contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to report their vehicle stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Z4, which was installed at Lipton Toyota in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Later in the day, Fort Lauderdale PD officers picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicles. The BMW was found backed into a residential driveway on N.W. 20th Avenue. The Z4 was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owners.
