When a Mercedes-Benz ML320 was recently stolen in North Dakota, its owners would have been surprised to know that it would be recovered in California. With help from the LoJack® installed in the vehicle, police were able to locate it even though it had been hidden from site in a building 26 hours away from the original theft location.

On February 24th, 2014, the owner of the Mercedes contacted the Bottineau County, ND Sheriff’s Department to report his vehicle was stolen from the garage at his home. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. That entry automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the ML320, which was installed at Public Motors in Los Angeles, CA.

A while later, deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen Mercedes Benz, ML320 with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The deputies tracked the Mercedes to a commercial area in Santee, where it was hidden in a storage shed, undetectable by visual search. The ML320 was retrieved and soon returned to its thankful owner.
