A Land Rover LR3 was having work done at a repair shop in Sheridan, CO. It was unlocked and running outside the business in preparation for a test drive when a shoplifting suspect being pursued by security personnel from a local discount store happened upon the SUV, jumped in and drove away. The LoJack® system that was installed when the vehicle was purchased helped police to recover it later that same day and apprehend the suspected thief as well.

On April 29th, 2014, the shop’s managers contacted the Sheridan Police to report the incident. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the LR3, which was installed at Jaguar-Land Rover of Colorado Springs, CO.

A short while later, officers from Denver PD, Colorado State Patrol and Greenwood Village PD picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen SUV with the LoJack tracking computers that are installed in their patrol vehicles. The Land Rover was found traveling through Greenwood Village and a traffic stop was performed after a brief pursuit. The suspect attempted to escape on foot but was apprehended by a K9 unit. The LR3 was soon returned to its pleased owners.
