On a recent Friday evening, the owner of a Mercedes-Benz ML-350 was having an argument on the phone with her husband while driving. She parked her vehicle at the side of the road and walked away from it, leaving it running with keys in the ignition. That split second was all it took for a passerby to jump into the driver’s seat and take off in her SUV. The vehicle was recovered later that same day thanks to great teamwork from local law enforcement assisted by the LoJack® System.

On April 4th, 2014, the victim contacted the Miami Gardens Police Department to report her Mercedes stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the ML350, which was installed at CarMax in Sanford, FL.

Later that evening, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The Mercedes was located on N.W. 179th Street in Miami Gardens. The ML350 was retrieved with the assistance of the Miami Gardens PD, and soon was back in the possession of its appreciative owner.
