On a recent Monday, the owners of a Toyota RAV4 stopped at a convenience store in Lakewood, NJ. Upon exiting the store, they discovered their SUV was missing from the parking lot. The LoJack® system that was installed when the vehicle was purchased helped police recover the RAV4 and take a suspect into custody the same day it was stolen.

On April 7th, 2014, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Lakewood Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the RAV4, which was installed at New Rochelle Toyota in New Rochelle, NY.

A short while later, officers from the Lakehurst PD picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Toyota was located at a private residence in nearby Whiting Township, where it was parked and unoccupied. After a brief surveillance, a suspect entered the stolen vehicle and was apprehended without incident. The undamaged RAV4 was soon returned to its relieved owners.
