The owner of a Honda Civic in Durham, NC, discovered his car was missing from his apartment complex parking lot on a recent Saturday. The LoJack® system that was installed when the vehicle was purchased assisted local law enforcement in recovering the Civic and apprehending the suspected thief that same day.

On April 12th, 2014, the Honda’s owner contacted the Durham Police Department to report the incident. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Civic, which was installed at Tamaroff Buick Honda Nissan in Southfield, MI.

A short while later, a Durham PD officer began to pick up the silent homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The Honda was located while traveling through the city. Other officers joined in, and, after a brief pursuit, the suspect parked the car at the end of a cul-de-sac and attempted to flee on foot. A K-9 unit was called to the site and soon located the suspect, who was placed into custody. The Civic was retrieved and soon returned to its thankful owner.
