The New York resident in this case fell asleep in his Nissan Maxima recently, leaving his wallet and keys on the car seat next to him. A thief entered the vehicle and removed the items, then returned the next day to steal the vehicle. The LoJack® system that was installed when the car was purchased helped local law enforcement not only recover the Maxima safely, but apprehend the thief as well.

On April 17th, 2014, the Nissan’s owner contacted the NYPD 102nd Precinct to report that his vehicle was stolen. Officers took a written report and entered the vehicle information into the NYPD Stolen Auto Computer and the NCIC national computer. This action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Maxima, which was installed at Star Nissan in Bayside, NY.

A short while later, officers from the Queens South Auto Larceny Unit picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Nissan was located parked in a driveway behind a private home. Further investigation revealed that the thief was the son of the homeowner, who told police the victim had fallen asleep in his car, and left his wallet and keys on the seat. The suspect took both items and returned a day later to take the vehicle. The Maxima was in excellent condition and was soon returned to its grateful owner.
