When the owner of a BMW X5 received a message from his SUV’s LoJack® Early Warning System, he was made aware that his vehicle was moved without his consent. When he discovered that it was indeed not where he had left it, he found two other things missing as well- his key and his grandson. Thanks to the heads-up from LoJack Early Warning, local police were able to recover the X5 that same day and apprehend the responsible party as well.

On March 7th, 2014, the BMW’s owner contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to report his SUV stolen.  The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the X5, which was installed at Braman Motor Cars in West Palm Beach, FL.

A short while later, a PBSO deputy picked up the silent homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computer in his patrol vehicle. The BMW was located parked and abandoned on a dead end street.  The deputy noticed two subjects walking away from the area, and detained them. One of the subjects identified himself as the grandson of the owner and was taken into custody. The X5 was retrieved and soon returned to its grateful owner.
