In this case, a Boca Raton, FL resident loaned his Nissan Versa to a ‘friend’ to run an errand. Unfortunately, the borrower behaved in a very unfriendly manner by refusing to return the vehicle. Thanks to the LoJack® system installed in the station wagon, local police were able to locate the car and the ‘friend’ on the same day the LoJack was activated.

On March 17th, 2014, the Nissan’s owner contacted the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to report their vehicle stolen. Deputies prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Versa, which was installed at West Palm Beach Nissan in West Palm Beach, FL.

Within minutes of activation, a Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked up the silent homing signal from the stolen station wagon on their on-board LoJack tracking computer. The deputy, along with backup, located the Nissan on S.W. 3rd Street in Deerfield Beach, where it was parked and occupied by two subjects. One was identified as the ‘friend’ of the car’s owner and was taken into custody. The Versa was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner. This was the second incident where this car was stolen and then recovered by police assisted by LoJack.
