The owner of a Toyota 4Runner was completing some paperwork at a business in Baton Rouge, LA, when someone reached into her purse, took her keys and stole her SUV from the parking lot. The LoJack® system that was installed when the vehicle was purchased proved its worth by helping local police recover the 4Runner in less than a half hour after activation.

On March 17th, 2014, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Baton Rouge Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the 4Runner, which was installed at Team Toyota in Baton Rouge, LA.

24 minutes later, a patrol officer and detective from the Baton Rouge PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Toyota was located in the parking area of an apartment building. A suspect in the driver’s seat was about to drive off but was stopped and taken into custody. The undamaged 4Runner was retrieved and soon returned to its happy owner.
