When the Bakersfield, CA residents in this case discovered their Mercedes Benz SL500 was missing from their residence, they weren’t sure how long it had been gone, but it must have been a while because the vehicle was recovered 250 miles away from its original location. Despite the fact that it had been moved so far from home, law enforcement, with help from the LoJack® system, located the SL500 in less than a half hour after activation.

On March 6th, 2014, the owner of the Mercedes contacted the Bakersfield Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack® device concealed in the SL500, which was installed at Mercedes Benz of San Diego, CA.

Just a few minutes after activation, an officer from the Oakland Police Department picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer located the Mercedes in downtown Oakland, where it was parked and abandoned at the curb. The undamaged SL500 was retrieved and soon returned to its thankful owners.
