In this case, a BMW 528 stolen in Santa Barbara, CA, is recovered traveling down a small mountain by local law enforcement with help from the LoJack® system, the same day it’s discovered missing.

On March 7th, 2014, the BMW’s owners contacted the Santa Barbara Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the 528, which was installed at Bob Baker Toyota in Lemon Grove, CA, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, patrol deputies from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department and officers from the California Highway Patrol picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The BMW was located while being driven down the highest peak in a mountainous public park. The deputies conducted a traffic stop, and took the driver into custody. The 528 was recovered and soon returned to its relieved owners.
