Imagine waking up in the middle of the night to find out your home had been broken into. This scary scenario recently occurred to the Philadelphia, PA residents in this case, who found that thieves had forced open a basement window to enter their home, stolen several items, found their car keys and fled in their Toyota Matrix. The LoJack® system the owners had installed when purchasing their car made this horrible experience a little better by helping local police recover the Matrix in less than an hour after activation.

On February 21st, 2014, the Toyota’s owner called Philadelphia Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the stolen vehicle information into the Philadelphia Police Computer System, the Philadelphia Crime Information center and the Pennsylvania State Police Computer. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Matrix, which was installed at Route 1 Toyota in Avenel, NJ.

Less than an hour later, officers from the Philadelphia PD 12th District picked up the homing signals from the stolen Toyota on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers located the Toyota on South 60th Street in Philadelphia, where it was parked and unoccupied. The Matrix was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owners.
