One of the most important facts about the LoJack® system is that activation in one state means activation in ALL states with LoJack coverage. If your car, truck, van or motorcycle is stolen, the LoJack transponder installed in it will contact police in ANY LoJack covered state the vehicle is in, whether it’s a neighboring state or one on the other side of the country. In this case, a GMC Envoy is stolen in Virginia and recovered the same day in Washington, DC, by law enforcement assisted by LoJack.

On February 21st, 2014, the GMC’s owner contacted the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department to report that their SUV was stolen. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This action automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Envoy, which was installed at Union Pontiac/GMC in Union, NJ.

Within a short period of time, patrol officers with the District of Columbia Metropolitan PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers found the GMC traveling on 6th Street SW in Washington, DC, and performed a traffic stop, taking the driver into custody. The Envoy was retrieved and quickly returned to its thankful owner.
