On a recent Friday morning, a truck driver discovered that his Kenworth T-800 box truck was stolen from a parking lot in Fort Myers, FL. Thanks to the LoJack® system concealed in in the vehicle, he didn’t have to worry very long. Local law enforcement, assisted by LoJack, recovered the box truck in less than a half hour after activation.

On February 6th, 2014, the Kenworth’s owner contacted the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to report it stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the box truck.

Within minutes of activation, a Miami-Dade PD pilot picked up the homing signal from the stolen truck on his helicopter’s on-board LoJack tracking computer. The pilot tracked the Kenworth to the intersection of S.W. 200th Street and Krome Avenue, and directed ground units to the location, where it was parked and abandoned. The box truck, valued at $35,000, was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner.
