This case involves a Ford F-350 truck stolen from a dealership in North Carolina, and recovered in a suspected ‘chop shop’ in South Carolina, thanks to law enforcement assisted by the LoJack® system.

On February 14th, 2014, the dealership contacted the Lincoln County, NC Sheriff’s Office to report that the Ford was stolen from their auto dealership. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the F-350.

A short while later, deputies from the Orangeburg County, SC Sheriff’s Office picked up the homing signals from the stolen truck on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Ford was located at a private residence in Orangeburg. The VIN had been removed and replaced with a false VIN. This tactic would have fooled a visual search but not the LoJack system. One suspect at the scene was questioned and another is being sought, as investigators believe this site may be a possible ‘chop shop’. The F-350 was retrieved and soon returned to the grateful dealership.
