The Vermont resident in this case left his BMW 530 running and unlocked while he entered a gas station one Thursday afternoon, and, when he came out, his car was gone. The LoJack® system that was installed when the 530 was purchased helped State Troopers in Massachusetts recover the vehicle quickly and safely.

On January 16th, 2014, the BMW’s owner contacted the Colchester Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the 530, which was installed at Rallye BMW in Westbury, NY.

A short while later, troopers from the Massachusetts State Police picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The troopers located the BMW traveling northbound on Route 495 and conducted a traffic stop.  Two suspects were placed under arrest and the 530 was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner.
