The Fort Lauderdale, FL resident in this case discovered her 2012 Mini Cooper missing from her apartment parking lot. She had left it unlocked overnight, which is never a good idea. This victim was glad she had the LoJack® system installed when she purchased her vehicle, because, with LoJack’s help, local law enforcement recovered her Cooper in just over five hours after activation.

On January 25th, 1014, the Mini’s owner contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to report the crime. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Cooper, which was installed at Braman Mini in West Palm Beach, FL.

Later that evening, a Fort Lauderdale PD officer picked up the homing signal from the stolen car on their on-board LoJack tracking computer.  The officer located the Mini and performed a traffic stop. The driver attempted to escape on foot, but was soon found by a K-9 unit and taken into custody. The Cooper was recovered and soon returned to its grateful owner.
