When the Georgia-based owner of a 2012 BMW 640 stopped for gas late one Saturday afternoon, probably the last thing he was expecting was to get carjacked. He was approached by four juveniles, one of whom was armed, who took his keys and told him to get back into the store. The victim followed the instructions, and called the police after the thieves departed. The LoJack® system installed in his vehicle helped local police recover it safely later that evening.

On February 8th, 2014, the BMW’s owner reported the crime to Atlanta Police. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle’s information into the NCIC police computer. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the 640, which was installed at United BMW Gwinnett in Duluth, GA.

A short while later, an Atlanta PD officer picked up the homing signal from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. After requesting backup, the officer located the BMW parked and abandoned in a fenced lot.  The 640 was retrieved and soon returned to its grateful owner.
