A Mitsubishi Montero was stolen while parked near its owner’s residence in the Bronx, NY on a recent Saturday night. Even though it was pretty late on a weekend evening, the local police, with LoJack’s help, were able to recover his vehicle in less than four hours after activation.

On January 11th, 2014, the Mitsubishi’s owner contacted the NYPD 46th Precinct to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the NYSPIN and NCIC state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the Montero, which was installed at Jerry’s Chevrolet in Baltimore, MD, was then automatically activated.

A short time later, detectives assigned to the Bronx DA’s Auto Squad picked up the silent LoJack homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their unmarked vehicles. The detectives located the Mitsubishi, parked and unoccupied on a residential street in the Bronx with the keys in the ignition. After a short surveillance, the undamaged Montero was retrieved and soon returned to its extremely happy owner.
