Companies that rent out construction equipment know better than anyone how popular their assets are with thieves, which is why so many of them protect their machines with the LoJack® system. LoJack helps police recover stolen vehicles and equipment quickly and safely, as in this case, where a stolen 2010 Magnum Light Tower is recovered in less than two and a half hours after activation.

On January 8th, 2014, a representative from the construction company contacted Westchester County Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the information for the stolen light tower into the NYSPIN and NCIC state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the light tower, which was installed at a large national equipment rental company.

A short time later, officers from Westchester PD picked up the homing signals coming from the stolen equipment on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicle. The officers located the Magnum in a residential driveway next to an abandoned home in Cortlandt, NY. The undamaged light tower was retrieved and soon returned to the very happy construction company.
