It was late one Sunday morning when the owner of a Mercedes Benz S500 discovered his car had been stolen from where he had parked it on the street. Thanks to his local law enforcement, assisted by the LoJack® system, his vehicle was recovered in less than 90 minutes after activation.

On January 12th, 2014, the owner of the Mercedes contacted the Chicago Police Department to report his vehicle stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the LEADS and NCIC state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed in the S500, which was installed at Luxury Motors in Las Vegas, NV, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, CPD officers from the 16th District began picking up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Mercedes was found on West Forest Preserve Drive in the Belmont Heights neighborhood, where it was parked in a private garage. Chicago’s Major Auto Theft Investigation Unit (CMATI) responded to the scene, retrieved the undamaged S500 and soon returned it to its relieved owner.
