In this case, a Chicago, IL resident parked his Toyota Avalon overnight on the street near his home. When he woke up the next day, New Year’s Eve, the car was gone. Thanks to the LoJack® system installed when the vehicle was purchased, recovery by police took less than 90 minutes after activation, and our victim was able to spend his evening celebrating instead of worrying.

On December 31st, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Chicago Police Department to report his vehicle stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the LEADS and NCIC state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the Avalon, which was installed at Enterprise Car Sales of Worth, IL.

A little more than an hour later, Illinois State Police from began picking up the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The troopers located the Toyota near 54th and Harper in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood where it was parked and unoccupied. The undamaged Avalon was soon returned to its grateful owner.
