In this case, Texas State Troopers and the flight crew of a Department of Public Safety helicopter join forces with the LoJack® system to recover a Komatsu Mini Excavator stolen from a construction site over a weekend.

On November 24th, 2013, the Komatsu’s owner contacted the Fort Bend Sheriff’s Department to report the crime. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computer. The LoJack transponder concealed in the mini excavator was then automatically activated.

A while later, a Texas Department of Public Safety flight crew picked up the homing signals from the stolen excavator on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their helicopter. The aircrew located the Komatsu at a private property in a rural farming area.  Texas Highway Patrol Troopers were guided to the location and seized the machine, valued at $18,000. The mini excavator was soon returned to its relieved owners.
