On a recent chilly Sunday, the owner of a 2013 Toyota Highlander in Newark, NJ, left her SUV running in front of her home to warm it up. When she exited her house, she discovered the vehicle had been stolen. Having the LoJack® system installed when she purchased her Highlander turned out to have been an excellent decision. With LoJack’s help, local law enforcement recovered her SUV in just over 90 minutes after activation.

On January 5th, 2014, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Newark Police Department to report that her vehicle had been stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the Highlander, which was installed at Route 1 Toyota in Avenel, NJ, was then automatically activated.

A short time later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals coming from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer located the Toyota on Murray Street where he found it parked and abandoned.  The Highlander was soon returned to its happy owner.
