When the Phoenix, AZ resident in this case went to the parking lot of his apartment complex, he was surprised to find his 2013 Scion FR-S missing. He was equally shocked to discover the vehicle was stolen by someone he knew. The LoJack® system he had installed in the car when he purchased it earlier in the year assisted local police in retrieving the FR-S and taking the thief into custody quickly and safely.

On December 19th, 2013, the Scion’s owner called the Phoenix Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the stolen vehicle information into the NCIC police computer. This routine police action automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the FR-S, which was installed at Power Toyota Scion in Tempe, AZ.

A short while later, Tempe PD officers began picking up the homing signal from the stolen car with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the Scion to the same apartment complex it was stolen from, and contacted Phoenix Police. The Phoenix officers discovered the car was in the possession of a family friend staying with the victim who had taken it without permission. The suspect was arrested and booked on auto theft charges. The Scion, valued at $25,000, was recovered with no damage and quickly returned to its owner.
