The New York based owner of a Toyota Sienna was trying to be a Good Samaritan when he caught a bad break. A friend asked him to give a lift to young lady who would be waiting on a certain corner. When he went to pick her up, she had a baby in her arms; she appeared to be having difficulty carrying the baby. When the driver exited the vehicle to give her a hand, a male appeared out of nowhere, jumped into his minivan and drove away. Luckily, the Toyota’s owner was not only kind-hearted, but also smart- he had the LoJack® system installed when he purchased his Sienna, so local police were able to recover it for him quickly, safely, and without any damage.

On December 14th, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the NYPD 77th Precinct to report the incident. Officers took a written report and entered the information into the NYPD stolen auto computer and the NCIC national computer. The LoJack unit concealed in the Sienna, which was installed at Route 1 Toyota in Avenel, NJ, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the 73rd precinct picked up the homing signal from the stolen minivan on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the vehicle to a residential area in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, where they found the Toyota parked and abandoned. After a brief surveillance, the undamaged Sienna was retrieved and returned to its elated owner.
