It is never, never a good idea to leave your car unlocked and unattended with the keys inside. You never know who may be watching and waiting for the opportunity to steal a vehicle. The Kearny, NJ resident and owner of the 2013 Toyota Corolla in this case left her vehicle in the parking lot of her apartment complex and ran inside to get something. When she came out, the car was gone. It’s a good thing she chose to have the LoJack® system installed when purchasing her Corolla, because, with assistance from LoJack, local police were able to recover it that same day.

On December 12th, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the Kearny Police Department to report that her vehicle had been stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the Corolla, which was installed at Hudson Toyota in Jersey City, NJ, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, a patrol officer from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department picked up the homing signals coming from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the Toyota to an apartment complex on Randolph Ave. in Newark, where the vehicle was found parked and abandoned. The undamaged Corolla was retrieved and soon returned to its grateful owner.
