Where is the safest place to leave your vehicle running and unlocked? The answer is- there isn’t one. No matter the time of day or night, whether you’re at a public place or your own home, it’s never a great idea to put your car, truck, van or motorcycle at risk in this manner. The Fresno, CA resident in this case learned this lesson the hard way when her 2013 Lexus RX 350 was stolen on the morning after Thanksgiving from her own driveway. The LoJack® system she had installed when purchasing her RX 350 proved its worth by helping local law enforcement recover it that same day.

On November 29th, 2013 the owner of the Lexus contacted the Fresno Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the RX 350, which was installed at Newport Lexus in Newport Beach, CA.

A short time later, an officer from the Fresno PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The officer tracked the Lexus to a residential area near Cedar and Gettysburg, where it was found parked and abandoned. Although her car was in good shape, the victim reported that her iPad, iPhone and $1000 cash had been removed from her car by the thieves. The undamaged RX 350, valued at $42,925, was soon returned to its thankful owner.
