The South Carolina residents in this case discovered their car missing from their driveway on a recent Friday morning. The LoJack® system that was installed when the car was purchased proved its value by helping local law enforcement recover it in just over two and half hours after activation.

On December 6th, 2013, the owner of the Lexus contacted the Richland County Sheriff’s Office to report the incident. Deputies verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack transponder concealed in the ES 300, which was installed at Lexus of Tampa Bay in Tampa, FL, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, officers from the RCSO picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the Lexus to a dirt road in the rural area of Richland County, where it was parked and abandoned. The ES 300 was undamaged, but various tools were located nearby, apparently in preparation to disassemble the car. The investigation is continuing. The Lexus was soon returned to its very relieved owners.
