The owner of the 2010 Toyota Yaris in this case had parked his car in front of a construction site in Queens, NY. The victim tripped, fell and was knocked unconscious. When he came to, he was in a hospital and his car keys were missing, and the vehicle had been taken. The LoJack® system installed in his Yaris proved its worth by helping local law enforcement recover it quickly, safely and without damage.

On December 3rd, 2013, the Toyota’s owner contacted the NYPD 111th precinct to report the incident. Officers took a written report. This information was then entered the vehicle’s information into the NYPD stolen vehicle computer and the NCIC national stolen vehicle computer for the United States. The LoJack unit on the Yaris, which was installed at Star Toyota in Bayside, NY, was then automatically activated.

A short while later, members of the Auto Crime Division- Queens Unit picked up the homing signal from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles and started tracking it. The Toyota was found parked and unoccupied on a residential street in the Howard Beach section of Queens. After a brief surveillance, the undamaged Yaris was recovered and soon returned to its elated owner, who felt that if it wasn’t for LoJack his vehicle may never have been recovered.
