The Florida based owner of the Hyundai Santa Fe in this case left his SUV running while he picked up some take-out food. He wasn’t gone long, but when he exited the restaurant, his vehicle was gone. The LoJack® system he had installed when purchasing the Santa Fe helped local police recover it in less than 45 minutes after activation.

On October 3rd, 2013, the Hyundai’s owner contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to report their vehicle stolen. After preparing a stolen vehicle report and theft affidavit, the deputy entered the vehicle’s information into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the sport utility vehicle, which was installed at Rick Case Hyundai in Davie, FL.

A short while later, a BCSO auto theft detective picked up the homing signal from the stolen SUV on the LoJack tracking computer installed in his patrol vehicle. The detective, after requesting backup, located the Hyundai parked and abandoned in an apartment complex lot on North Course Drive. The Santa Fe was retrieved and soon returned to its relieved owner.
