When a Florida construction company noticed that a Case Super M Series 2 backhoe was missing from a job site, they contacted local police right away.  The LoJack® system that was installed when they purchased their equipment was instrumental in helping local police recover the machine, even though the thieves had it hidden.

On October 21st, 2013, the Case’s owner contacted the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office to report the crime. Deputies verified the theft and entered the machine’s information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the backhoe.

A short while later, deputies from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office picked up the homing signals from the equipment on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. With assistance from the SCSO Aviation Unit, the deputies tracked the vehicle to a rural property on Whidden Road and Fruitvilla Road in Sarasota County. The Case was parked next to an outbuilding, hidden under a tarp. They also observed large amounts of copper and other metals on the property that were believed to be stolen. The property’s owner was arrested at the scene. The backhoe was soon returned to the construction site.
