The owner of a Yamaha R1 motorcycle thought his bike was safe when he chained it a light pole in the parking lot of his apartment complex in Alameda, CA.  He found out that he was wrong one Thursday evening when he noticed both his bike and his ‘unbreakable’ chain lock were missing. The victim was glad he had taken the extra precaution of having the LoJack® system installed when he bought his bike, which helped local law enforcement track and recover his vehicle.

On November 7th, 2013, the Yamaha’s owner contacted Alameda Police to report the incident. Officers verified the crime information and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. This procedure automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the R1, which was installed at PCP Motorsports in Sacramento, CA.

A short while later, officers from the San Francisco PD received the homing signal from the stolen bike on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers located the Yamaha to the rear parking lot of a closed business in the Mission District.  The R1 was recovered and soon returned to its very relieved owner.
