When a 2012 Bobcat Track Loader was discovered missing on Halloween from a Newark, OH construction site, it took the foreman an entire day to check with the crew to make sure no one else was using it. The next step was to contact local law enforcement and have them activate the LoJack® system installed on the loader, so police could receive the tracking signal and recover the machine.
On November 1st, 2013, the job site’s foreman contacted the Newark Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack device concealed in the track loader.
A short while later, Newark PD officers received a homing signal from the stolen machine on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicle. The Bobcat was tracked and located hidden in heavy brush adjacent to a railroad overpass in Newark. It had been painted yellow and covered it with a tarp. These tactics might have diverted a visual search, but not the LoJack® system. The track loader was recovered and soon returned to the job site.
