Late one Friday evening, a Union City, CA resident discovered his Yamaha R1 motorcycle missing from the parking lot of his apartment. The LoJack® system he had installed when purchasing his bike proved to be a good investment, because, with LoJack’s help, local police were able to recover his vehicle in less than five hours after activation.

On November 1st, 2013, the Yamaha’s owner reported the crime to Union City Police. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack unit concealed on the R1, which was installed at PCP Motorsports in Sacramento, CA, was automatically activated.

A short while later,  Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies picked up the homing signals from the stolen motorcycle on the LoJack tracking computer installed in their patrol vehicles. The deputies called in Alameda County Auto Theft detectives to assist, and tracked the signal to the garage of a private residence in South Oakland, where the partially stripped Yamaha was found.  Task Force officers entered the residence and discovered all of the parts removed from the motorcycle. One suspect was arrested and the R1 was returned to its grateful owner.
