The Westminster, CO residents in this case found themselves dealing with an automotive Trick or Treat early Halloween morning. The trick- someone stole their 2010 Ford Escape. The treat- the LoJack® system they had installed when purchasing their SUV helped local law enforcement recover it in just over a half hour after activation.

On October 31st, 2013, the Ford’s owners contacted the Westminster Police Department to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers. The LoJack device concealed in the Escape, which was installed at Longmont Ford in Longmont, CO, was then automatically activated.

A very short while later, officers from several law enforcement jurisdictions (Westminster, Broomfield, Federal Heights and Boulder Sheriff) began picking up the homing signals from the stolen SUV with the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. Westminster PD officers tracked the Ford to West 106th Avenue where they found it parked and abandoned. The Escape was recovered for prompt and safe return to the very happy owners.
