A Melroe Bobcat rental machine was stolen from a storage yard in Walpole, MA recently. The thieves thought they were being clever by hiding it in a deeply wooded area that was difficult to see or access. The criminals weren’t counting on the LoJack® system installed on the machine, which sent a silent signal leading police to its location and facilitated its recovery.

On October 8th, 2013, the rental customer contacted Walpole Police to report the theft.  Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the Bobcat.

A short while later, officers from the Foxboro and Walpole Police began to pick up the homing signals coming from the stolen machine on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The Walpole officers located the vehicle in a large heavily wooded area containing power lines. The officers had to use an ATV to access the area, and finally located the undamaged Bobcat. The rental customer was very grateful to have the Melroe returned to his business.
