Construction equipment rental is a major industry involving high value machines. If one piece is stolen, it has an adverse effect on both the company that owns the machine, who lose an asset as well as its revenue, and the business renting the equipment, as they need the machine to operate. Many equipment leasing firms choose to protect their fleet with the LoJack® system, which assists police in retrieving stolen machines fast. In this case, a leased 2012 Terax skid steer stolen from a Dallas, TX warehouse is recovered the same day it was stolen.

On October 23rd, 2013, the warehouse owner contacted the Dallas Police to report the crime. Officers verified the burglary and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the skid steer.

A short while later, officers from the Dallas PD picked up the homing signals from the stolen equipment on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers tracked the Terax to a public storage facility and were able to determine the exact storage room it was hidden in. The skid steer, valued at $27,150, was recovered and soon returned to the warehouse.
