Just after lunch on a Saturday afternoon, this Yonkers, NY resident realized that she had left the keys in her Nissan Sentra. When she went outside to retrieve them, they were gone- along with her vehicle. The thief also took something not visible- the LoJack® system hidden in the car, which assisted local police in recovering the Sentra in less than two hours after activation.

On October 19th, 2013, the Nissan’s owner contacted Yonkers Police to report the crime. Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers (NYSPIN/ NCIC). This procedure automatically activated the LoJack unit concealed in the Nissan, which was installed at Cox Nissan in Bronx, NY.

A short while later, officers assigned to NYPD’s Bronx Auto Larceny Unit picked up the homing signals from the stolen car on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol vehicles. The officers located the Nissan, parked and unoccupied in a business district in the Bronx. Surveillance was set up, and a male was soon observed opening the driver’s door. The officers immediately placed the suspect under arrest. The Sentra was returned to its extremely happy owner.
