When the owner of a business in Kent, WA received a late night cellphone call letting him know his Ford E-250 commercial van had been stolen, he considered it good news. Why? Because the call came from the LoJack® Early Warning System, which alerts vehicle owners when their cars, trucks, vans or motorcycles are moved without the owner’s permission. Even though this victim lives two hours away from his workplace, he was able to call local law enforcement to report the theft and have the LoJack unit activated. Police were able to recover his E-250 later that same morning.

On October 17th, 2013, the Ford’s owner contacted Kent, WA Police who verified the theft and entered the vehicle identification number into the state and federal crime computers. That process automatically activated the LoJack transponder concealed in the E-250, which was installed at Bowen Scarff Ford in Kent, WA.

A short while later, Renton PD officers received the homing signal transmitting from the stolen van on the LoJack tracking computers installed in their patrol cars.  The officers located the van in a parking lot of a large supermarket on Rainier Avenue South.  A detective was examining the Ford when the suspect walked up to it and was immediately arrested.  The E-250 was soon returned to its grateful owner, who told police this was the second time his van had been stolen and recovered thanks to the LoJack Early Warning system.
